Air Service Development
Air service development is a core function of Dane County Regional Airport and focuses on attracting, retaining, and growing nonstop air service to better connect our region to destinations across the country and beyond. This work is highly collaborative and involves close coordination with airline partners, regional businesses, tourism organizations, and economic development leaders.
The airport actively identifies opportunities for new routes and expanded service and works directly with airlines to demonstrate the strength of the Madison market. These efforts help ensure the community has access to a competitive and sustainable level of air service.
Community Air Service Support Program (CASSP)
To support these efforts, the airport maintains a Community Air Service Support Program (CASSP). The CASSP is an airport-funded program that establishes the policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements under which airlines may receive incentives to start or expand service at Dane County Regional Airport.
Through the CASSP, the airport may offer a combination of marketing support and temporary landing fee abatements to encourage new or enhanced air service. The program is designed to support several types of service, including:
- New entrant carriers establishing service in the Madison market
- New nonstop routes to unserved destinations
- Expanded service in existing markets
- Seasonal service that strengthens connectivity during peak travel periods
Funding for the program is sourced through the airport’s budget and does not use local tax dollars. Incentives are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to defined eligibility criteria and performance requirements.
By providing structured, transparent incentives, the CASSP helps reduce risk for airlines considering new service while advancing the airport’s long-term goal of improving air service options for the region.
