Traveling can create stress, especially at airports. The Dane County Regional Airport Pet Therapy Team provides stress relief and comfort to passengers through interaction with pets.
Therapy dogs and handlers with blue vests roam the terminal, visiting passengers awaiting flights and providing comfort.
Certification and Training
All volunteers and dogs are registered with Pet Partners, Inc. or Alliance of Therapy Dogs, national organizations that register and insure members. Each volunteer goes through classroom and in-terminal training to learn about Dane County Regional Airport. They also complete a walk-through with their dog to make sure there is a good fit for both volunteer and dog. In addition, handlers are fingerprinted and badged. All pet therapy volunteers and dogs complete a stringent evaluation to ensure that all possible scenarios the dog may encounter are validated. Teams are re-evaluated every two-years to ensure compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
